It is important for your child’s early learning development that they are provided toys and crafts that involve two or more skill building activities. Lacing toys are one good example of just such educational childrens toys.

There are several important benefits in providing toddler learning toys which promote good eye-to hand coordination. These include general physical coordination as well as increased self confidence in successfully completing a task.

LacingScapes, a new lacing toy from ImagiPLAY, will provide your children ages 3 and up hours of educational play as they lace 15 creatures into the 8” X 10 “ ocean or pond background. This is an ideal toddler toy to help your children develop fine motor skills as well as problem solving skills.

Children can quietly play and increase confidence in their ability to complete a task all on their own.  These children’s toys are unique in that they are made from wood and the background and all the creatures and yarn can be safely stored in its own wooden tray.

From the head down towards their trunk the child’s development will progress and providing toys to help improve your child’s eye-hand coordination will help keep their reflexes sharp. The more your child makes use of these types of skill building activities the better they will get.

posted by gbowen
September 16, 2010

Toys that become labeled as “classic toys” are most often your wooden kids toys. Rollercoaster toys, otherwise known as wire and bead maze toys, are educational learning toys for kids 2 up.

Our pretty frog could be one of those educational toys you take everywhere. Our bead and maze toys are sized to fit in a stroller or your child’s car seat and are perfect manipulative toys and games for play-on-the-go!

Easy to carry around when you travel or go on vacation these brightly colored, non toxic toys are a great toy to take on vacations and when you take your family camping.

Parents and teachers in preschools agree that wire bead and maze toys are one of their favorite toys. Because there are no loose parts they are safe for your children to play with limited supervision.

Pediatricians, sports centers, health clubs and anyone else who has a waiting room or playroom for children waiting for their parents will find these toys indispensible.

These wooden toys also come in varieties such as Apple Tree, Kitty, Bear and Flower. Kids love the bright colors and the feel of the wood.

Eco-Friendly is the Way to Go!

posted by gbowen
September 13, 2010

Even though your preschool children have many types of toddler learning toys and children’s wooden toys  in their arsenal parents have no control about the toy phases their kids will be going through.  What is their favorite toy one day may be set aside the next day and for several weeks.

For a period of time your child may be into their dinosaur wooden toys, the next day toys with wheels and the next week all they want to do is build structures with their toy blocks.  It is beneficial to have all sorts of toddler toys available for your kids.  Here two recommended toys I have just read about as well as a reminder that Eco-Friendly toys are the way to go!

The LeapStart Learning Table from LeapFrog is an activity table filled with lots and lots of fun activities for your toddler!  This is a great educational toy which your child will enjoy.  There are 2 modes, a music mode and a learning mode both of which cause the numerous buttons and gadgets on the table to produce a different output.  There is a book which teaches the alphabet, a music keyboard which teaches the colors, the trademark frog and much more!

The Neurosmith Music Blocks set is the perfect toy to inspire a love for music in your child. The Neurosmith Music Blocks set, as the name suggests, features musical blocks along with a unit and changeable catridges. When a block is inserted into the unit, a musical piece can be heard. Toddlers will have a great time trying out the various combinations that are possible by turning the blocks around get variations of the music playing.

Eco-friendly toys which are made from natural, safe materials and do not harm our environment, are  highly recommended.  Eco-friendly, or green toys, as they are known, are easy to find if you know where to look!  There are certain speciality manufacturers who take great pride in their eco-friendly products.  Some of these manufacturers include the German company Haba, ImagiPlay and others.  Do your planet a big favor and pick up these eco-friendly toys today!

We sell safe and eco-friendly toddler toys on our website, All I Can Imagine, which are also recommended by educators and parents.  We will have more BLOG articles, such as this one, in the upcoming weeks to help you select toys for your children as well as gifts for this Christmas.

Soldiers Take Wooden Toys to War!

posted by gbowen

Kids in all countries love toys and our troops are being equipped with wooden toys to take to Iraq and Afghanistan. According to an article I read online from the gazette.com (Colorado Springs), a group of senior’s have a woodworking club and have crafted several hundred small wooden cars and animals for Fort Carson bound for Iraq and Afghanistan.

The Springs Scrollers got most of their materials, according to the article, from friends in the Pikes Peak Whittlers, which supplied 12,000 wooden wheels and hundreds of quarter-inch dowels that allow the wheels to spin.

I further read that “Master Sgt. Andrew Clark, who coordinates donations at Fort Carson, said the post sent its first shipment of toys with the 43rd Sustainment Brigade, which deployed this month (March 2010)  to Afghanistan, and will send others with the 3rd Brigade Combat Team to Iraq.”

Children have always loved the touch, smell and feel of a hand-crafted wooden toy.  Toys made of wood last longer, are safer children’s toys and can be passed down from child to child and perhaps even from one generation to another.

When you are selecting painted wooden toys you will want to make sure they are painted with non-toxic paints and varnishes. ImagiPLAY is a toy manufacturer we strongly suggest – their non toxic toys are all natural, earth friendly and child safe. View their wooden kids toys online at All I Can Imagine.

If you are making your own wood toys, purchasing the correct type of paints and varnishes will benefit everyone especially those with allergies and chemical sensitivities. You will also be helping our environment by reducing ozone depleting contaminants.

Nurturing Your Toddlers and Young Children

posted by gbowen
June 8, 2010

Spending time with your child while he plays, and playing with him, has several benefits for parents and the child as well. While interacting with your child (or several children) they will be thriving in a stimulating environment.

Providing toddler learning toys that are open ended and provide a moderate challenge to your childs physical and cognitive abilities will make their playtime an educational experience without them knowing they are learning.

Adults providing close attention to children’s playtime, while being friendly and nurturing, will help all the children involved nurture one another.  As parents are pointing to words in a book or an animal in a puzzle and begin talking about it the children will easily open up with their own ideas and questions.

During this type of playtime, if you as a parent have a particular lesson you want to teach, you can provide a hands-on learning experience that children will be interested in and they will easily absorb their lesson.  This nurturing type of playtime is useful at home as well in child care and nursery school programs.

See our new A Day on the Farm Playset.  We have just added a new wooden kids toy to our website that is a perfect educational toy for 3 year old boys and girls.  Kids will love learning about farm animals as they play with each chunky wood figure.  Cows, roosters, pigs and more!

Are You Depriving Your Toddler?

posted by gbowen

It has been said that “complex block-play is linked with advanced math skills in later life”.  Toddlers as young as two years old should have several sets of toy blocks to play with.

Whether your child has foam blocks, cardboard blocks or wooden blocks to play with he will have a toy that will provide him open-ended play time. They will be able to create their own structures into their own play scenarios.

A set of blocks can help your child develop such things as language skills, social skills, creative problem-solving skills, spatial skills as well as motor and hand-eye coordination.

Toy blocks and other construction toys are among the best developmental toys that money can buy.  An investment in quality wooden kids toys can’t be over emphasized.   One such kids toy is Toy Store in a Box, by ImagiPLAY.

ImagiPLAY’s owner believes that the single most important toy a child can have is a set of blocks.  Every block set they manufacture us multi-functional and is designed to inspire hours of imaginative play.

Toy Store in a Box is the ultimate developmental toy for ages 2 up.  There are 28 stacking/nesting boxes of various sizes and they all fit into one another. They all stack in such a way that they can be stored in the largest block, the green, 9” x 9” cube.

Kids will love the feel of the wood and the bright colors, red, yellow, blue and green. This is one wooden kids toys you must see!

Our Night Sky

posted by gbowen
June 4, 2010

Dr. Robert Agnew (a Professor of Music and Humanities at Edison State College in Piqua, Ohio) wrote an article “Ancient Humanity and the Night Sky” in which he talks about the understanding of astronomy and, though, he says, “there is much still to learn about ancient Egypt and ancient China, it appears that their understanding of astronomy was already quite advanced as much as five-thousand years ago.”

When introducing your children to the night sky and our solar system, you will have many good articles to ready by Dr. Agnew at: http://www.abc-learningfun4u.com/astronomytalk.html where most of his articles, according to what he says, are dealing with the night sky and how we understand it using telescopes.

Our ancestors and early sailors used the night sky for navigation way before telescopes were ever thought of.  I am always amazed when I remember how many hundreds of miles were sailed and navigated with only the stars that God put in our sky.

Because of ancient peoples who sailed the seas and oceans and their love of the heavenly sky, their curiosity and endurance to face  hardships led to many discoveries of faraway lands such as America.

ZOOM TO THE MOON:  Get your child one of our children’s wooden toys from our selection of playsets. As you teach your children about space and our planets their lessons will be enhanced when playing with our 5 X 8” Velcro-closure rocketship. Receive seven wooden figures including aliens and two space people along with the rocketship.

Travel in our sky, the inventions of airplanes and rocket ships, are only possible because of years of trial and error that men and women paid for with their lives.  We should never take their sacrifices lightly.

Make sure to visit the link above and read many interesting articles to help in your children’s education.  Dr. Agnew has written such articles as: “Music and the Stars”, “Ancient Rocks”, “Ghosts of the Night”, and more and you may read them by clicking on the links.

Camping With Your Toddler

posted by gbowen
May 29, 2010

Camping with your children will be a wonderful bonding experience.  And, when children can play outside there are less rules and restrictions, making it fun for the whole family.

Besides all the running around and exploring and the normal camping chores, there will also need to be a time for quite play.  Planning ahead of time you could prepare some simple crafts for kids to make while sitting at a picnic table.

Here is one I thought would be fun and children will learn about design in nature from this toddler craft.

LEAF PRINT

You will need:
* Paper
* Different types of leaves
* Paint or crayons

Put the paper flat on the table and then put the leaf under the paper. After you’ve done that, use the crayon to shade the print of the leaf on the paper.

If you are using paint, you put the leaf in the paint and then print in on the paper.

You could bring some zip lock bags to store their leaves in if your child does not have some other idea of his own – such as decorating his tent.

If you liked this craft idea and want more I would suggest going to this website:  http://www.parentingtoddlers.com/toddlercraft.html

See one of our unique children’s wooden toys.  You can easily pack some wooden kids toys when you go camping and this outrageously fun eco-balancing game can be played at a picnic table when the family gathers around together.  See this Tumblin’ Tree Game on our website, All I Can Imagine.

Camping Fun

posted by gbowen
May 5, 2010

Camping usually is a great family fun idea-when you want a sure-fire way to bond with your kids take them camping. You will be creating life-long memories.

Kids can help set up the tent and unload the car and can be trusted to remain nearby without continual supervision. They can help collect wood for your fire and help with the cooking (and clean up).

One important thing to remember when you are packing for your trip; each person must have his/her own flashlight.  How else can you make shadows on the tent?  And a flashlight will direct the way to the outhouse late at night.

A great evening ritual will be looking for different kinds of insects that they can find. They might even catch frogs and minnows near the lakes and streams. You could let them examine these creatures and return them unharmed to the wild. Also, carry bug jars, nets, and buckets.

Make sure you always have a camera on hand; camping can be a comedy of errors with kids.  You can also let your kids carry their own cameras through their travels each day.

You will want to bring a few simple toys with you for quiet time.  A set of Backyard Buddy Blocks is a great idea for kids 18 months and up.  See these children’s wooden toys on our website, All I Can Imagine.

posted by gbowen
April 12, 2010

This farm animal can see almost 360 degrees and can see colors too! And, the cow can smell up to 5 miles away.

Cows can live up to 25 years.  Cows have four stomachs, and no two cows have the same pattern or spots. An adult male cow is called a bull and an adult female is called a cow.  Cows eat corn, hay, barley, beet pulp, grass and wheat.

You can read about other farm animals and find neat craft ideas at this website:   http://kiddyhouse.com/Farm/

See a neat set of wood blocks, manufactured by ImagiPLAY. These wood blocks are fun kids toys to help teach about six farm animals.  These blocks are called Buddy Blocks and are a safe Color Matching and Puzzle Toy.

Colorful animals make our wooden kids toys a great puzzle for boys and girls age 18 months and up.  Kids learn to match colors and animals.

Each four piece block set forms six different puzzles featuring colorful animals.  When choosing our Farm Buddy Blocks set two of the animals you will get are a pink pig and a brown and white cow. (We also have sets of backyard animals and jungle animals.)
