Three Reasons to Give Your Toddler 3d Puzzles

posted by gbowen
February 7, 2011

You will provide your toddlers many educational toys in their early years. Carefully considering your child’s age, interests and maturity will be leading factors in the selection of toys you provide your boys and girls.

Toddler learning toys keep young children busy and engaged in quality, fun play and help then learn to concentrate on one task making a 3d wooden puzzle a toy they will play with over and over again.

Wood puzzles with numbers on each piece will help your child learn sequential counting. As your toddler plays with puzzles with either numbers or letters he will be learning and not even know it!

Thirdly, children who have a variety of wooden puzzles to play with will have hours of quiet play time and they will improve and develop their manual dexterity, memory and coordination skills.

Although jigsaw puzzles help strengthen numeric and visual skills parents must select puzzles for the correct age-group. If children are given puzzles that are too difficult they may become frustrated and lose interest in their toy.

It is a good idea, however, to have at least one “advanced” puzzle on hand for the day when you notice the puzzle he is playing with does become too easy and you can whip out a new one to keep his interest.

See our complete line of wild animal wood puzzles.  All our children’s wooden toys are back in stock and ready for your Christmas shopping!

This 1” chunky brown bear and cub is a great 3d wooden puzzle for kids 3 up.  Did you notice that the cub is a separate piece; so you get two toys in one!

Did you know brown bears come in different sizes and shades?  A bear can be light cream color and all shades up through an almost black color.  It was thought that 86 different kinds of grizzly bears and brown bears existed in North America.  Today, scientists agree that there is only one species of brown bear with a lot of variations!  Bears in northwestern North America are called Kodiak, or Alaskan brown bears.

There are several brown bear subspecies found in Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and possibly Northwest Africa, but they are all smaller than their North American relatives.  Read more about the brown bear at San Diego Zoo’s website where I found the above information.  Go here: http://www.sandiegozoo.org/animalbytes/t-brown_bear.html.

These toys sell out quickly so remember to shop early for your children’s wooden toys!

Rocking Horse – 3D Wooden Puzzle Doubles as a Craft Kit

posted by gbowen
September 15, 2010

It is believed that this popular wooden children’s toythe rocking horse, made its first appearance in the 17th century.  The rocking horse was used to help children begin to learn to ride a horse.

The Middle Ages is when others believe that the concept of the rocking horse began.  Did you know that Knights that were in training would often construct horses to practice jousting?

It is said that Queen Victoria was the woman responsible for making the rocking horse famous when she gave this toddler toy to her children. At first, only the wealthy could afford these state-of-the-art toys. They were hand crafted in small numbers until the industrial age hit and mass production made the rocking horse available to the public.

You can introduce your toddlers to the rocking horse by providing them a ColorMeUp Rocking Horse puzzle/craft kit.  This is a splinter-proof 3d wooden puzzle that doubles as a craft kit.  When you get your child this puzzle it comes with a pallet of paint and a paint brush.

See our entire collection of 3d puzzles to paint at All I Can Imagine.  Selections include the rocking horse, an cute hoot owl, pretty lion, butterfly, two bunnies and a wonderful wood train.

Years ago ADHD was mysterious.  It was not openly spoken about and there was less information available as compared to nowadays.

Today, parents, as well as doctors and educators are faced with a growing number of children who have been labeled as having ADHD.  This is frightening and you as a parent may easily become overwhelmed as what to do or how to make sure your child may have ADHA.

Autism is a word that covers delays.  You may also notice unusual developmental patterns in your child’s development.  The delay could be in communication/language, social interaction and/or behavior. The delays could very well be across many areas in your child’s development.

You will begin to notice these delays by the age of three but can be detected as early as 18 months.  One simple thing you can do is to watch your child as he plays with toys that are meant to increase his motor skills and see how, and if you believe his skills are actually improving.

Beware; also of how well your child can put together small objects, complete puzzles, do craft work and use a scissors (just to name a few activities).  Normal development in children is essential and children must learn to accurately and effectively use their smaller muscles in their hands.  These intrinsic muscles will be used to complete many essential functions for the rest of their lives.

See our “three chicks” 3d wooden puzzle.  This is an easy wood puzzle for young children and also makes a great educational wooden toy.

Do You Have Gastropods in Your Back Yard?

posted by gbowen
May 24, 2010

It’s ok if you do because snails (Gastropods)  are found in almost every habitat, be it damp land, fresh water, or sea water.  Snails are small, soft-bodied mollusk that crawls very slowly. Most snails have spiral shells on their backs into which they can pull back for protection. There are land snails, freshwater snails, and marine snails.

Did you know that a snail has only one foot? Or that it has no bones at all?

Snails move slowly making them easy to watch. Slow-moving snails are great for studying animal motion. If you find a snail in your garden and turn it over, you’ll see that it uses a large, muscular foot to crawl along.

There are two types of snails. Gilled snails have gills and can close their bodies into their shells with a plate, or door. Gilled snails usually lay their eggs in jelly-like cocoons above or under water. The trapdoor snail (actually a livebearer) and apple snail are two of these.

Pulmonate snails have lungs. They either come to the surface to breathe, or some breathe through their body surface while underwater. They cannot close their bodies into their shells. Pulmonate snails usually lay their eggs in gelatinous masses under water (the Malaysian trumpet snail though is a live-bearer). Examples are pond snails and ramshorn snails.

This information was found on: http://www.abc-kid.com/snails/ and http://www.teacherwebshelf.com/classroompets/insectsandco-snails.htm.  See these websites for more interesting snail facts for kids.

If you guessed that they are all considered rainforest animals you would be correct. Frogs are from the Amphibians category, Bats and Bengal Tigers from the Mammals category.

Other animals that are considered rainforest animals are from categories such as Arachnids, Birds, Insects, and Reptiles to name a few others.

According to Answers.com the Amazon Rainforest has a mossy ground cover and is rich with vegetation, animals and insects. It has many slopes, cliffs and hills for waterfalls and rivers.

The soil is moist because it gets at least 9 feet of water a year. It has many exotic flowers and many fish in the rivers.

Nowadays there are many students studying the rainforest and here is a link with all sorts of useful information for your students. http://www.rain-tree.com/schoolreports.htm.  You may also like this rainforest activity pages link:  http://www.first-school.ws/theme/animals/coloring-pages/rainforest.htm#alphabet.

If your students are 3 and up we offer a unique rainforest 3d wooden puzzle playset on our website. Each animal is its own puzzle piece and is chunky in size making it easy for young children to pick up and play with. All the toy animals fit together to form a pretty 7.5” square puzzle.

Can You Guess What Animal “Knuckle Walks”?

posted by gbowen
February 17, 2010

Like all great apes, gorillas have arms that are longer than their legs and tend to walk on all four limbs at certain times – a movement that is called knuckle walking. Adult males are known as ‘silverbacks’ due to the distinctive silver-colored hair on their backs.

Depending on the sub-species, the Gorillas’ appearance may vary.  The Western sub-species tend to be brownish gray in color, while the eastern and mountain gorillas tend to have a more blackish coat. Mountain gorillas also have longer and thicker fur which is adapted to their colder mountainous habitat. The three lowland sub-species of gorillas sport short, fine hair. Eastern lowland gorillas are the largest of the four subspecies.

Gorilla’s eat healthy foods such as leaves, shoots, roots, vines and fruits and are a popular zoo attraction at feeding time.  I grew up in Chicago and one of my favorite houses was the ape house.  It always fascinated me to watch the large Gorilla’s eating and interacting with one another.

When you take your children to see the Gorillas keep in mind that they are shy animals that are most active during the day. At dusk, each gorilla constructs a ‘nest’ of leaves and plant material in which it will sleep. Mothers usually share their nests with nursing infants.

Gorilla’s are an endangered species and if you home school you can teach your children about Gorilla’s during their science or geography lesson. Here is a craft idea you might like to try. http://www.first-school.ws/activities/alpha/g/gorilla.htm.

Noah’s Dinosaurs

posted by gbowen
February 6, 2010

To fulfill the needs of all the animals, Noah carefully built the Ark to Gods specifications. The Ark did indeed have room for all the animals that God brought to Noah before the Flood.

Noah did not have to go out and find the correct animals – God brought each one to him and this probably included a young pair of each main type of dinosaur.  God may have just brought Noah the basic types of dinosaurs He first created.

Young dinosaurs would be smaller than full grown adult dinosaurs and easier to care for.  You probably already figured out that the younger dinosaurs would also eat less food and would require a much smaller room.

It is said that dinosaurs lived for a few centuries, at least, after the Flood, but probably not in the great numbers that there once had been before the Flood.  It is not exactly known when dinosaurs finally died out, according to the article I read.

To help teach kids about many different dinosaurs they will enjoy playing with wooden kids toys and playsets that include brightly colored, chunky pieces.  Our Dinosaur puzzle play set is a safe children’s wooden toy that doubles as a 3d wooden puzzle.  Each puzzle piece is a unique dinosaur and makes a separate toy by itself.

Did you know many of the animals on Noah’s Ark may have slept most of the time?
