Can You Name a Bird That Does Not Fly?

posted by Eva
January 14, 2010

They are great swimmers and divers. Their wings work as paddle for swimming. The torpedo shape of their body helps them swim at high speeds. They can also waddle on land.

You would be correct if you guessed the Penguin. Kids became fascinated with the popularity of the movie ‘Happy Feet’ and I did to. At Christmas a group of my friends and I sat and watched it twice in a row. Here are a few more penguin facts that your kids will love to know – Penguins usually move within groups and eat snow as a source of fresh water.

Penguins use sign language to communicate with each other and make use of their flippers and head to talk to other penguins. Find more facts and cute penguin craft ideas by searching online.

There is also a cute penguin 3d wooden puzzle manufactured by ImagiPLAY that we have pictured with the blog post that your kids would love to get their hands on.  There are 10 interlocking penguin pieces each with a different number, 1-10.  Kids will love playing with this wood puzzle and its individual penguins while learning to count 1-10. Puzzles are a wonderful kids learning toy.

Once a child has conquered putting together their 3d wooden puzzles, their confidence will skyrocket. The fun doesn’t stop there – with ImagiPLAY’s 3d wood puzzles your child continues to benefit from repeated assembly of jigsaw puzzles, honing their speed with the critical thinking skills they’ve acquired.

Fascinating Tug Boats

posted by gbowen
September 8, 2009

20831-tugboat-3d-wood-puzzle-naturalThe year was 1915 and history was being made in Waterford, New York.  The opening or the new Erie Canal from Waterford to Rexford began as the Tug Schenectady entered the Waterford Flight of Locks on May 15th.

Over the next three years, different sections of the Barge Canal would open as completed. Soon, backyards throughout New York State would feature long barges loaded with goods of all kinds, pushed and pulled by sleek and unassuming tugs, whose smooth lines and tranquil appearance while at rest would belie massive steam (and later diesel) engines below, giving them tremendous capacity to do their work.

Belching gigantic clouds of black smoke; these unique canal-going tugs, with their beguiling lines and sparkling brass, enchanted children of all ages from Waterford to Whitehall and Tonowanda. Gazing upon these fire breathing dragons moving effortlessly through the water, many would dream of someday taking the place of that kindly Engineer or Captain leaning up against the wheelhouse – taking a puff on his pipe, and giving a wave of his cap.

Kids of all ages were fascinated by watching  tug boats and for twenty-four hours a day, communities had – permanently ingrained in the backdrop of their main streets and rolling fields alike – a constantly changing collage of these proud, magnificent vessels. Tugboats were as common a sight as a man walking a dog, or a child riding a bike. Oh, how times have changed.

Bring back the excitement in this time of history with a tug boat wood puzzle toy by ImagiPLAY.

From an article, First Tug on the Barge Canal”, written by Capt. John C. Callaghan – see pictures of real tug boats and read his full article at: http://www.nycanal.com/history/tugsonthebargecanal.html

30212-african-safari-wood-indoor-play-setA Safari Themed Party with jungle Zoo animals with rainforest music can get the guests into the feel of a real safari. Safari Theme Party Food which can be served at a Safari Themed Party are burgers, fries and colorful drinks with umbrellas.

For your Safari Themed Party choose from sweet treats like safari cakes, zoo animal face cakes and or safari cupcakes.  Animal crackers/cookies can also be used as a decoration, simply place zoo animal crackers in a party bowl and use the boxes to make Animal Zoo Cages.

A fun game to play is Hide & Go Seek or Tag.  The person who’s “it” wears an explorer’s outfit (safari “pith” hat and binoculars) and the rest of the players wearing zoo Animal Masks.  Another game can be played like an Easter Egg or Scavenger Hunt, just hide your inflatable safari animals, and have the party guests place the animals they’ve collected in their own Animal Zoo Cages.

Decorate a your party with inflatable zoo animals and make paper bag safari puppets.  Put up safari print balloons and streamers. Have each guest dress up as their favorite safari animal, and the guest of honor as the explorer.

Wood Push Toy Wins Award

posted by DonnaB
August 15, 2009

40003-dog-wood-push-pull-toyWhile “testing” this wood toy, it was taken to various locations such as a medical center, special needs therapy office, to local parks and malls, along with other toys and games to get consumer feedback.

ImagiPLAY’s blue dog push toy was a serious hit no matter where it was taken.  Everyone who saw this wood toy was captivated with it.

A special needs child aged 7 was showing no interest in any of the other products until the blue dog was pulled out. Her face light up like a Christmas tree and her demeanor changed dramatically for the positive. The little girl was absolutely fascinated with moving the PushAlong Dog back and forth, over and over again for close to 30 minutes!

Most toys are segregated into specific target groups for use.  Average kids have specific toys designed for their needs, and children with special needs have toys which are most often designed specifically for their own needs, but a crossover of target market, age, and purpose is a rarity in most cases, and this dog crossed this line.
